The Marketplace asked for documents. What now?

A “data matching issue” doesn’t mean you did anything wrong, but ignoring it can cost you your coverage or savings.

Why we ask: Your ZIP and household size decide which plans and prices you can get. Your phone number and email go to Nexus Benefit Solutions only, to answer this request, and are never sold.

This is a request for help, not an application for coverage. Nexus Benefit Solutions is a private, independent agency and is not affiliated with HealthCare.gov, CMS, the State of Michigan or DIFS. Please don't include medical details in this form.

Short answerAfter you apply or enroll, the Marketplace may ask for documents to verify information like income, citizenship or immigration status, sometimes called a “data matching issue.”[1] In most cases you have at least 90 days; miss the deadline in your notice and you could lose your coverage or savings.[1]

What to know

  • You can still enroll right away if your Eligibility Notice says you can buy a plan.[1]
  • The Marketplace won’t end coverage or change savings without advance notice, warning notices and a reminder phone call.[1]
  • Special Enrollment Period documents work differently: pick a plan, then send them within 30 days.[2] See moving and Special Enrollment.

How to send them

  • Upload in your HealthCare.gov account; it’s the fastest way. Files must be .pdf, .jpeg, .jpg, .gif, .xml, .png, .tiff or .bmp, under 10 MB, with no special characters in the file name.[1]
  • Mail photocopies, never originals, with the bar code page from your notice, to Health Insurance Marketplace, Attn: Supporting Documentation, 465 Industrial Blvd., London, KY 40750-0001.[1]
  • The Marketplace can’t accept documents by email or fax.[1]

Income mismatches

For income, your estimate is based on the year of coverage and uses MAGI.[3] See what counts as income. If the Marketplace decides you aren’t eligible after you send documents and you disagree, you generally have 90 days from the Eligibility Notice to appeal.[4] See Marketplace appeals.

Please don’t send us Social Security numbers or medical details by text or email.
