How the pieces fit
- If your children qualify for CHIP, they can’t get savings on a Marketplace plan, but you may still get savings on your own Marketplace plan.[6]
- You can apply for Medicaid or CHIP any time of year.[6] Marketplace enrollment needs Open Enrollment (November 1, 2026 to January 15, 2027) or a qualifying life event.[4] See special enrollment periods.
- Your tax-credit household is you plus the children you claim as dependents.[7] More on kids’ options: health insurance for kids.
